Well - the Ford 3000-4000 models are in that price range around here (Nebraska), but don't know about where you're at. They make an excellent acreage tractor. Look into the IH 444 and 584 series (and other close series). On another note - I have a 1949 8N that I use constantly for mowing, blading, discing, plowing, snow removal, PHD, and a HOST of other stuff. I have a loader that works well with it. Neighbor a few miles over uses his for everything - he farms 3/4 of the 320 acres he owns with one. They aren't for everyone/thing, but they do more than people think.
