High octane fuel doesn't give more power if you haven't
put high compression pistons etc. in the engine to need
high octane fuel, High octane has additives to prevent
pre ignition that high compression causes. It's the high
compression in souped up engines that makes more
power. High octane fuel prevents self destruction by
preignition.
