The way I got the story JD didn't want to slight their dealers when HD was looking for a brand to sell. They knew JD was hot and FYI their previous Scotts brand was an excellent machine.....just gave mine to my son (15-42) and there is nothing wrong with it. Had it for 5 yrs.

Funny on the deck comment. That is one place I look for quality and I really liked the deck on mine. It's a 42" and 2 blades and well engineered. Doesn't scalp and is very easy to level....if you have to.
