That's what economists tell us. In my Wis county we have a foundry that, in a city of 5000, employs 1500. They build a lot of cast iron wheels for John Deere and others. They haven't had a layoff in 30 years. In the same county we have one of the oldest auto companies(FWD) that manufactures Seagraves fire engines. They have a hard time keeping up with demand. Also a small auto parts factory, a mfg of industrial filters, powdered drink mix makers, dairy processing plants, etc. In the county to my northeast there is a yacht factory (Carver) in a very small town. To my east and west are seemingly endless paper mills and a lot of my tillage equipment is manufactured about 40 miles east (Brillion). I can almost see their smokestacks from my farm. Personally, I have never seen so much manufacturing on a local basis.
