For several summers when I was a teen ager I worked for the Game and Park Commission Fishers division. We used copper sulfate in the ponds to keep growth down. It didn't harm the fish and killed the planktonic growth. Warning this stuff can stan concrete and kill trees. But there is also several other products that work.
