Jim, Do you need a starter because you do not have one or do you have a starter that has gone bad? A good generator/alternator/starter shop can useually rebuild a starter for you or identify an available interchange. At one time these shops were easy to find, one in every town. Not as many any more (thanks to AutoZone and the like) but still around. Look in your yellow pages. If you just need a starter a shop may be able to help. Lot of knowledge in a place like that. They can figure a lot out from application, bolt patterns, and the diamiter of the flywheel and number of teeth. Recently, the starter went bad on my Dodge Dakota. Tried all the obvious places, dealer wanted to much, AutoZone did not have one in stock, etc. Finally went to a shop. They had me fixed up (rebuilt) and running in no time and their price was better than AutoZone. Old tractor? Old time solution.
