How can you bash the Conservatives? First of all, as other's have pointed out - this was a Supreme Court Decision, none of whom were appointed by the current administration. Second of all, Conservatives are, and have always been, in favor of the free market system - meaning less government involvement. The free market system would work wonders in this situation. If the developer wants the land bad enough, than he'll offer $1 million for everybody's house - everyone may not sell, but I would bet most of them would.
