Souter, Ginsburg, Kennedy, Stevens & Breyer voted for the ruling (the majority).

Scalia, Thomas, O'Conner & Rehnquist voted against (the minority).

Stevens wrote the majority opinion, O'Conner wrote the minority opinion. Thomas wrote a seperate dissent in addition to the minority opinion.
