You could part answer your own question by checking for spark immediately after it stops. Good strong blue spark would indicate problem is in another system, none (or weak and/or yellow) might indicate the fault is in the ignition system. If ignition system is bad, check out voltages to make sure you have voltage at the coil with points open and design current through the coil with points closed. If all checks out good, check for a spark on the HT connection from the coil.
You should be able to eliminate/pinpoint the wiring, switch, battery connections, etc as you proceed, but first of all check what is happening when it actually stops and maybe let us know what you find.
