Allan is right, boy it feels good saying that! Go with the bigger auger, you won't regret it. Built a wood fence couple years ago and used a nine inch auger for my 4x4 posts. Works fine except when measurements were off and had to "move the hole" to fit my 8 foot 2x6 rail! 'sides doesn't hurt to have a few extra inches! Dug
