The front axle support must be removed to drop the pan. I don't want to be condenscending, but you are aware that the cast iron pan is an integral part of the tractor don't you? Once you remove that pan the only thing keeping the tractor from being a cracked mass of casting on the floor is two bolts at the top of the very thin bellhousing into the transmission housing.Make sure that you block the transmission up.
You should get yourself an FO-4 manual available at TSC E-bay or your local New Holland Dealer.
