Running the risk of getting flamed by all of the V8 owners out there, I'll suggest that you think small. Remember you can always trade up. In the meantime, you don't want the machine to own you because you spent so much on it, so why not get a toy which will do half, or three-quarters of the things you'd like to tackle? The cost of a couple of hours of backhoe rental might not be too bad, and you can enjoy the other toys bought cheaply.
