I use the plastic tarps BUT if it is for any period of time (as in being stored) I always build some type of a wooden frame to keep the tarp away from the tinwork. That way air can move freely around inside there and the plastic doesn't make contact with the metal. I tie it down to wheel rims, axles, etc. to keep it secure. Not too handy if you're using the tractor but for longer term storage, it works great, even through these northern winters we have up here. I custom make the frame and even attatch it to parts of the tractor chassis if I can, I use 2x4's and deck screws which enables me to disassemble it when it comes apart.
