string trimmer recommendations

My 18 year old Homelite is reaching the end of the line and I'm looking for a new one. It won't be for commercial use but for residential use: a large yard with lots of trees to trim around and it will also be used by my sone at his place down the road. I've looked a lot lately: Echo, Troy-Built, Cub Cadet, Husqvarna, Ryobi, McCulloch, etc. I kind of like the straight-shaft concept. Any recommendations or experiences? Thanks,
