set the poles in the ground in an "A" frame style. When you set them put a 8" paver or stone in the hole to support the base. Then where the poles come to gather secure with lag bolts. between the poles at the top (where they come togather use a heavey pipe to keep them apart. Comeing down the pole on each side you place an X with a 2x 8 treated so the large a frame stays stable. from the center of the a frame hange down 2 chains one from each pole. then use the bottom of each chain to "hang" the middle of your bridge. This style should last for ever with a coat of paint or some type of wood treatment. This way the poles will not rot laying on top of the ground.
