I have seen down the well vidio of chlorine tablets laying undisolved on the bottom. It seems in some cases the tablets don't disolve unless the water passes over them.
One step in the shock chlorinating process to remember is to save 10-15 gal of treated water to dump in the top of the well after the pump is shut down. this forces treated water through the well screen to the outside of the casing killing bacteria that may be hiding in the aquifer.
