Were you using plain water in the radiator or 50/50 permanant antifreeze/water mix? What about the pressure cap? Was it working properly? Shouldn't need any kind of additive to transfer heat unless the water jacket is heavily rusted or limed up or the radiator pressure is too low.I'm glad the additive got you running again but I gotta' question why you had the problem to begin with.
