I can remember picking up an Ursus (Polish) tractor leaflet at an agricultural fair which included the words "Lamp for the night working"
On a more serious note. My doctor is Chinese, she could not speak a word of English when she landed here 2 years ago. It has got to be said that her command of the language now is remarkable and her (English) handwriting is so beautiful and neat, it puts mine to shame. How long would it take you to learn to speak let alone write in Mandarin? Her husband was telling me that it is now compulsory for Chinese children to learn English at school.Some 80 million Chinese children are now taking English lessons.To put that in some sort of perspective, the total population of UK is about 60 million, They showed us on TV the other night a town that has just been built on the outskirts of Shanghai and it was a carbon copy of a typical English country town, complete with (pseudo) church and castle, the next shot showed a class full of kids,(7-8 year olds I would say) giving a perfect rendition of "We wish you a Merry Christmas".Mao is gone and long forgotten. They have come a very long way in a very short time,Their economy is growing at an alarming rate. OK I know a lot of their tractors etc. are "junk" but what did everyone think to Japanese imports at first?
Wow! and I see they use drum mowers........
