The best material is runnercrush (that's what we call it here in Northern NY). It is 3/4"-minus crusher-run, 100% the product of crushing ledge rock at a quarry. Pea gravel has all rounded stones and will make ruts and not stay in place. Runnercrush will run about 145 lbs per cubic foot, pea gravel is a little less, around 130 lbs per cubic foot, depending on particle sizes.
