I used to think a clean desktop was the way to a fast computer too, now I'm not so sure. Each shortcut takes up a couple bytes, they're really no big deal. What I do find (I do tech support) is that people who have cluttered desktops also have computers so full of crud they don't run for squat. The best thing most people can do for themselves is reinstall the OS once every year or two depending on how much garbage they install. Alternately don't install so much garbage. I'm sure everybody on this fine board already knows (smile, wink, wink) but you don't have to install the weatherbug when it pops up.... Hey theres a thought, how much stuff is running in the taskbar down by the clock? Another thought, NT is a multi-user interface, do you have (accidentally I'm thinking) multiple users logged in at the same time?
