I got this campershell on my rig. It's held in place with 4 4/16" bolts. With time the 5/16" holes have becomed wallowed out. I use the external rings because I think there's a better chance of making contact with a metal surface.

Both types are supposed to be better than split ring as a general rule in vibration condions.
