It is obvious that these guys don"t really know how to jump start a 6 volt 8N from 12 volts. The starter turns the same direction regardless of polarity. You do need some charge in your six volt battery to get the ignition system to get sparkies at the plugs. Polarity don"t matter if you do the following. MAKE SURE TRACTOR IS OUT OF GEAR (you are bypassing the starter switch safety interlock and could get run over otherwise). Connect jumper cables to the good 12V battery. Connect either cable to the big post on the starter (Starters turn the same way regardless of how they are hooked up). Turn the ingition key to on. Touch the remaining cable to a good ground away from the battery. Tractor should start, then disconnect all cables.
