I wouldn't worry about the tractor if it runs. You will need a way to fill it though. If you are in the country you can use a nurse tank with a fill hose and vent off the vapor side of the tractor tank to let fuel from nurse in. Otherwise a pump would be in order but those can get spendy. I think the last time I inquired a KRUG hand pump was $500.

The plumbing you described doesn't sound right. LP systems on tractors need to be fed liquid except when starting on cold days. Liquid is fed into what is called the converter (looks like and contains regulators) The converter also has coolant running through it from the engine to add the heat to vaporize the fuel. Under load (esp with a tractor that big) you can't pull enough vapor off a tank that small to keep the tractor running. Would bet that both tanks draw liquid and the second tank was for added capacity.

One major monkey wrench you may run into is parts availability. Tractor probably has Ensign brand carburation. If this is the case and you need parts you are pretty much SOL. Had a guy give me a lead on parts but haven't followed it up yet. If you do have problems you will probably be able to convert to another brand of carburation (Impco is popular). But you will have to buy both the carb and converter when you do this.

Your local LP supplier should be able to help you with leads on parts suppliers or help you directly. Will also help with fueling equipment. When I say fuel supplier I mean the people who have trucks to fill 125 gallon and up tanks NOT WalMart with the cage of 20 pound cylinders.

If you were figuring on running with 20 # cylinders forget about the tractor. The OPD valve won't let you pull liquid and the price per gallon for those tanks is about 4 to 5 times what you can buy it off the truck.
