3400 Ford Diesel quit running

Parked my 3400 Diesel tractor the other day just fine. Started right up today but only ran a few seconds. After much cranking it fired up but would "shudder" or "stumble" while it was at idle. After 10-15 minutes it slowed down and gradually shut off. All obvious stuff-plenty of fuel, hot battery seems fine. Tractor is 70's vintage. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Nick in VA.
