Go easy on the shouting.

Might not be a crack, might be a threaded fitting that has worn from vibration over the past 60 years. You could replace the fitting or remove it and apply a good sealant, like Rectorseal #5 (plumbing department of a home center will have it), and run the tapered fitting back in maybe an extra turn.
