I am a tech. at a ford dealership. And the latest fords have dual stage air bags. And the computer reads passenger weight,speed,g-force and seat position. All at the time of impact and either sets off the bag or bags at max force on hard impact.Or half on lighter impacts. On the 04"s and up,if no one is on the pasenger side the passenger bag will not deploy. On the f-series you can turn off the pasenger bag with the switch on the dash. I have seen alot of crashes with and without air bags. And I would much rather have airbags and live to pay. Then to die and be cheap.
