Does the mag have an impulse? If it does not, (or it HAS an impulse that's not working), the low RPM's of the mag at cranking, compared to running it with the drill is making the weak spark problem show up. I have an OLD 1.5 KVA Kohler 4-cyl genset that has no impulse on the mag. The genset is electric start, by 2-12 Volt batteries in series for 24 Volts. It cranks quite fast with the batteries, and starts well. However, if you try to hand-crank it, you've got to crank like HECK to get enough speed to get a good spark out of the mag. Poor points or/or condensor, weak coil, or magnets in need of recharging will make the mag's spark even weaker at low RPM's.
