I don't think you will get anything measureable with permatex. Even non-metallic gasket material is marginal unless you can check the clearance after clamping and add or delete. Compressibility is too unpredictable. I would use metallic shims. We used to use plastic gaskets on hydraulic pumps & motors for clearances way back when, but they required a specific & accurate torque by application. Joe
