Joe: Take a measurment across face of tire down to within 2" of rim on each side, to get length of cross chain. Then check diameter a that point, then just use the old formula for circumference, on the basis of that diameter. That will give length of side chain. Since tires are not smooth thus the science will not be exact, allow an extra foot on side chains. One item on buying chains, allow youself a bit of extra length as there is quite a difference between new and worn tires. If you start with new tires you my find yourself taking out two cross chains by the time tires are worn out. Chains do stretch with time as well.
