Shocks do not support any weight. They merely provide a damping force that opposes the motion of the wheel or axle, depending on the particular suspension system. I think you'll have to look at the springs, spring mounts, and/or the frame for the solution to your problem. Make sure that your bumper is not misaligned, however.
You can quickly check the ride height by parking the vehicle on a level surface and measuring the distance from the ground to the frame, at say the point where the aft spring mount attaches on each side with a tape measure. The numbers should be virtually identical side to side. Do the same in the front using a common reference point.Again the results should be the same, side to side (but different front to rear).
