That"s how I came by my "45 JD "A"--- my brother-in-law gave it to me. It wasn"t running, but, I"ve since got it running and use it all the time. I"ve offered to pay him for the tractor numerous times, but he refuses any money.
He also "loaned" me a drag type disc, and a mower---both of which he"d bought for that old "A".
He knows I"m not going to sell any of it, and enjoys getting back on that old tractor whenever he comes over....
I think the lady gave you the tractor for the reasons others have said----she knew you"d take care of it....
