Having been in the antique business for a long time, I have the chance to deal with people on a daily basis that have no idea what their items are worth. I find that I sleep better at night not having to worry that I tried to take advantage of someone, even when offered something on a "gift" basis. If your friend would really like to see her Dad's tractor put to good use, maybe she could give it to the church to be raffled off as a fund raiser? If not, I would give her the same amount that you would feel comfortable paying at an auction for the tractor.
