Single hydraulic on double valve?

Just bought a used Mo-Co that has a single-acting hydraulic cylinder to set the cutting height. Return is by spring. My IH has a remote for double-acting cylinders (4 way valve with 2 outlets). Can I safely connect the mower to just one side of the tractor's hydraulic valve? Any better way to do it that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?
