Deutz 4006

Hi Guys

I have a question regarding a Deutz 4006 purchased recently. On the back cylinder just below where the injector goes in there is small rod coming out which is connected to a cable. Only part of this cable remains so I dont know where the other end of the cable was connected to originally. Does anyone know anything about this device. What does it do if you push it in? At the moment it is pulled out and its seized. Is it some sort of cold
starting device?
