Farmall was often used generically. Fridgidare, Piper Cub, IBM. Trademarks and brand names are valuable intangible assetts to a corporation. Officers must exercise "due dilignece" to protect such assets or they might be sued by stockholders. You might think that McDonalds suing the mom and pop hamburger stand for their Mac sandwich is heavy handed corporate greed, but they are just doing their job. Coming from someone who recently purchased a brand new NH "skid steer" and trying to figure out how to advertise locally without saying "Bobcat" :)
