You may want to investigate your assumptions on machine requirements. These days, a $700-$1200 Dell system (for example) is extremely powerful (500 meg ram, 3ghz p4, etc) , and will easily handle any business need. Now, if you are doing SERIOUS photoshop work, video editing, or gaming, you could use more power (1 gig ram, super duper vid card). For a server- are you talking about a web server? For a small to moderate office lan, the aforementioned $700 or less system will work just fine. Bear in mind that todays $500 machine exceeds the high end servers of abut 2 years ago. The thing that more money will/should buy you is maintenance and service. Spend the extra money on a subscription to spysweeper and a good antivirus prog.
