I think the 4-16 is a good idea. If your 1850 still has the aluminum M-S carburetor and you turn them down to about 88-90 horse they take a lot less fuel than at the 95 horse most of them run. We sold about 10 diesel to each gas 1850. The 1750 with the 283 cubic engine is a very good gas tractor on fuel in terms of power output.
