WE have an 84 Pete w/3406.
Had been set at 425 HP and ran accordingly for years.
Recently had to cut it back to 350 hp to comply w/ emissions.
Condidered replacement as needed the HP.
Found a engine specialist that reworked the intercooler , fuel pump, and Dyno tuned to 400 hp at the wheel with emissions compliance.
Needless to say we are happy to have saved a major expense and can climb hills very handily again.
We have short local runs, so mileage is approx. 400,000 miles in 21 years, but this engine still has much life left in it.
