Bearing to shaft oil clearance

Several days ago a guy said here that he had replaced motor bearings with new standard size bearings.Needless to say he reassembled to find the same loud knock.I beleive this is why;Recommended clearance-.0015"-normal oil pressure.double claerance.003"-provides five times normal oil supply Double again to .006" clearance provides 25 times normal oil supply.As excessivly large clearances are approached the danger of oil starvation is introduced.This is a result of the bearings nearest the pump receiving ALL the oil supply and the furthest not getting enough.I didnt want to tell him he just wasted a set of standard bearings.Reference: ENGINE POWER BOOK
