We filled ours with diesel fuel, then rolled a few pages of newspaper and stuck em in the fuel filler hole, you want the newspaper to stand up in the diesel fuel like a candle wik, lite the paper and don't close the fuel opening untill the diesel is burning. It will take 15 minutes or so to ignite the diesel. if the paper falls over in the fuel then it's a do over. And don't ever close the damper if it has one, to shut the fire off. don't cover the stack to kill the fire. always shut the air off at the at the base and let the fire die out before closing the damper or covering the stack.
