The other morning it was 35 degrees below zero, who knows what windchill. We just leave our dogs out with no problem. They seem to find a good place to sleep, usually in a hay shed with round bales. We have a St. Bernard and a treeing Walker, short hair and long hair. Every day regardless of the temp they are out with the tractor when I feed hay. They love to check under the bales I move. I don't doubt your story but the cold doesn't affect our dogs, seems they and the cattle always know how to get out of the wind.
