Replacing muffler on Allis Chalmers D17 Series IV

My muffler fell off my D17 Series IV. Is there a separate pipe, that connects between the muffler and the manifold? If so, this pipe has rusted off, flush with the top of the manifold opening. I am assuming this is a threaded connection. What is the best way to try to remove the piece still in the manifold? I am afraid if I cannot get it out, I would have to replace the manifold also. If so, I am not looking forward to trying to remove old manifold bolts! Please help. Thanks!
