There are some riff raff that make fake plates that look origional with any number you want.
Anyone purchasing a tractor rare or not should check with the cops and dealer if it's "hot". Funny how there are more 330 Deere's showing up than Mother Deere ever built.
Checking through the parts book can often narrow a tractor down to a specific few months. Then the serial number can be checked if it's in that range.
Instead of wrecking the plate scraping with a screwdriver or jackknife like a bunch of donkeys I've seen. Scrub it with toothpast or waterless handcleaer and soft brush for a while.
Some of those numbers are hard to read and maybe sent the wrong info in for a trace.
