i have a 2002 F350 crewcab with the 8' bed (yes, i know it is 22' long) with 30,000 miles on it. i get about 12.5MPG with mostly highway and some around town, and that is running about 70-72MPH. if i keep it at 60-65 i can get closer to 15MPG, but it always seems to drift up to 75 before i know it. the week before Christmas i hauled a 5200 lb John Deere D for about 1000 miles with a regular tow-behind trailer and averaged 9.3MPG. a diesel would've gotten better mileage, but diesel fuel was about 25 cents per gal more expensive. i have never had a problem with the truck and the fact the V10 was only about a $600 option over the V8 made the V10 choice the obvious one. if i only used the truck for hauling a 5th-wheel trailer long distances i probably would've went with a diesel.
