Just guessing, but do you have the V6? If thats the case it doesn't surprise me too much, especially since that was the first year of the then new model. The 4.2 was notorious for blowing head gaskets, just like its little brother the 3.8. If you have a 4.6 I'm surprised you having engine problems- they are pretty much bullet proof mechanically - just not a whole lot of power.

As for the AC and heater core, it is an 8 year old vehicle, its something to be expected. We have a pair of 2000 Chevy one tons, both have had the fuel pumps replaced (one is on its third unit), both have blown the intake manifold gaskets and one has blown the transmission.
