Thanks for your response. I guess the operative words are "...maintained as they should be...". To me that's per the manufacturer's instructions. I foumd that most people don't read the maintenance instructions and use the maximum allowable miles between changes as the bench mark. If you read(and it's not in fine print) the maintenance instructions for engine oil changes, a condition called "Severe Operation" is defined. It usually goes something like this: stop and go traffic, long periods of idling, dusty roads, operating for short periods of time daily, etc. If that's the case, then you should change the oil every 3000 miles or three months which ever comes sooner. It's hard for me to fault a brand because somebody went 40,000 miles before they changed the oil, yet we all know someone who thinks that way. Just my opinion.
