JIT inventory has a part in this also. Companies have figured out that parts inventory setting on the shelf doesn't make them any money. actually costs to maintain inventory (interest, building maintance etc.)

Manufacture is where JIT (just in time) realy takes effect. Parts aren't ordered until there is JUST enough time to make and deliver. Works good as long as there are no snags in the chain.
