VR problems please help

I installed a new VR on my 58 case, because the idiot light was always on so i ran some test and narrowed it down to that. the light went out everything was great but i had to remove the battery for a couple of days. when i sarted it today the light was back on. When i remove the mount bolts from the VR and lift the unit so its not grounded the light goes off, i dont understand what could have happened, yes i did polarize it when it was new. please help
