Electric start or cranking engine?
If not run completely dry, they start after a 1/2 a minute rotating without compression to prime the primary fuel system. The cranking engine of course has much more endurance than the electric start.
How to handle this and other service questions is all in your service manual.
Since you got such a bargain on this machine you should be able to afford the parts, service and operator's manuals cheap directly from Mother Deere at 1-800-522-7448.
