you have the story right as I understand it. I think there were other tractors just as bad during that era, Just a bunch of parts thrown together and put on the market. Another was the original Froelich predecessore of the Waterloo Boy. I think 3 were made and all were returned to the factory. The Ford Selecto Speed design team was lead by Harold Brock who later moved to Deere and helped desin the JD powershift which is the same basic design. I think the Selectro speed was just rushed into production too fast. In more modern tractors I think the 2010 JD diesel was as bad as any but every body has had some problems over the years as was said its how well the manufacturer stood behind it.
